    Use, Purpose and Evaluation

All DT products that pupils make have to have a purpose and they have to test product throughout the design and making process to ensure it is’ fit for purpose’- this means pupils must constantly test their product, making changes when, where and if necessary.

E.g. Year 4 made Pop Up Story books – Purpose- to entertain EYFS children.

    Famous Inventors

Alongside each year group doing 3 Units of DT per year they also study 3 famous inventors.

This enables pupils to see how inventions need to be ‘fit for the purpose’ and to see these inventions in everyday life.

Morris and Rose Michtom – The teddy bear

John Logie Baird – The television

    Josephine Cochrane – The dishwasher

Margaret E. Knights – The paper bag

    Charles Babbage – The computer

    Karl Benz – The car

    Samuel Morse – Morse code

    Mary Anderson – Windshield wipers

Charles F. Brush – Wind turbines

Tim Berners Lee – The World Wide Web
